If this is your first time in this site, welcome. It has been my dream that my province, Marinduque, Philippines becomes a world tourist destination not only during Easter Week but also whole year round. You can help me achieve my dream by telling your friends about this site. The photo above is your own private beach at The Chateau Du Mer Beach Resort. The sand is not as white as Boracay, but it is only a few steps from your front yard and away from the mayhem and crowds of Boracay. I have posted some of my favorite Filipino and American dishes and recipes on this site also. Some of the photos and videos on this site, I do not own. However, I have no intention on infringement of your copyrights. Cheers!

The USS Potomac Cruise of the Oakland-SFO Bay

I signed up for the THD USS Potomac Cruise tomorrow,  Saturday ( see instruction to residents below)💚. Total cost of the Cruise and Lunch is $85💙.  Here's a description of the cruise from the Internet.

The USS Potomac offers two-hour and three-hour cruises, some with narrated themes.

In every cruise, you’ll cruise by huge container ships unloading and loading cargo.  After passing under the Bay Bridge, you’ll see the San Francisco skyline, cruise by Alcatraz, Angel Island, the bay’s lighthouses, around Yerba Buena and Treasure Island.  If the winds and tides are with us on our three-hour cruises, you’ll even travel underneath the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge.

The USS Potomac normally operates live-narrated San Francisco Bay public cruises from Opening Day on the Bay in late April through Veteran’s Day in November.  She closes out the year with an adult Holiday Cruise and Santa Cruises when our special guest from the North Pole joins us aboard.

The narrators will talk about the history of the Bay Area and point out surrounding landmarks, and discuss what effect’s FDR’s administration had on the Bay Area through the New Deal and WPA projects.

Guests may watch a 15-minute video in the Visitor Center prior to the cruise that provides a glimpse of FDR’s life and times aboard the USS Potomac, and reveals the twists and turns of her journey to the Bay Area, and ultimately the remarkable restoration of this National Historic Landmark and national treasure.

Come join us and walk the decks once traversed by presidents, royalty (including the King of Rock ‘N Roll), and the First Lady of the United States Eleanor Roosevelt.  You’ll see the fantail, where FDR loved to enjoy cocktails, sparing or joking with the press; the saloon where he took his meals and worked on his stamp collection, the elevator he used to pull himself up to the top deck,  the room where he worked on his stamp collections, and his cabin where he retired for the night.  You’ll see the crew cabins, officer’s and guest quarters, and the wheelhouse where the captain drives the ship.

A cruise on the Potomac is more than just time on the water.  It’s an opportunity to step back in time and imagine what life aboard must have been like back in the 1940s for the 32nd president of the United States.

More than half a million people have visited and cruised aboard the Potomac, a National Historic Landmark, since she was opened to the public at Jack London Square in Oakland, California, in the summer of 1995 after a 14-year, $5 million restoration.   Tours and cruises are offered throughout the year.  Please see our current schedule.

At 165-feet-long, the ship was used by FDR for leisure time and to host dignitaries, high government officials, diplomats, kings and queens, and family members.  Today, the Potomac is dedicated to the story of FDR who, as the 32nd president of the United States, led the nation through the Great Depression and World War II.  He also authored the New Deal post-war rebuilding plan which included, among many local projects, the construction of the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay bridges.https://usspotomac.org/

Accessibility

The Presidential Yacht USS Potomac is a historically preserved vessel. As such, it does not fully comply with the facility access standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ship allows limited access for the mobility impaired. Wheelchairs are limited to the main deck only. Restrooms onboard the ship are not accessible as the maximum wheelchair width (outside of wheel to outside of wheel) is 25 inches. Accessible restrooms are available in the Port of Oakland Buildings next to the Potomac. USS Potomac docents and crew are not allowed to provide physical assistance to mobility impaired individuals; including lifting occupied wheelchairs over obstacles. For Details visit:

Meanwhile, Did you know that .......
The popular Filipino dish dinuguan (pork blood stew) traces its roots to pre-colonial times?
It was created as a way to use every part of a slaughtered pig, ensuring that nothing went to waste—a culinary practice born from necessity and ingenuity. This tradition reflects the resourcefulness of early Filipinos, who turned simple ingredients into a dish that remains beloved today.

My Play with Words- Part 3 of 5

Enrich Your Vocabulary with Meaningful Reflections-My Play with Words-Part 3 of 5

Unlocking Rare Words: Enrich Your Vocabulary with Meaningful Reflections

Language has the power to elevate thought, inspire action, and deepen our understanding of the world. Some words, though rarely used, hold profound significance and deserve a place in our conversations and writing. Here, we explore fifteen such rare gems, each with its own story and flavor, seamlessly woven into a journey of life’s experiences.

The Beauty of Balance and Emotion

In a world driven by excess, abstemiousness stands as a virtue — the practice of temperance, moderation, and frugality. It reminds us that happiness often lies not in abundance, but in thoughtful restraint. Yet, despite our best efforts to remain composed, moments of choler can seize us — bursts of anger or irritability that reveal our human imperfections.

Life’s transitions can bring pain, and sometimes disseverance — the painful severing of relationships or ideals — is inevitable. But with every ending comes an epiphany, a sudden insight or realization that enlightens the path ahead.

Growth, Connection, and Vulnerability

Nature teaches us fecundity, the extraordinary capacity for productivity and fruitfulness, not just in the fields but in the mind and spirit. Likewise, social grace often relies on ingratiation, the subtle art of endearing oneself to others, sometimes through charm, sometimes through genuine connection.

Yet, vulnerability manifests in many forms. Lachrymation, the act of weeping or crying, is not just an outpouring of sadness but a release — an honest testament to our emotional depth.

The Masks We Wear

Modern society often dazzles us with meretriciousness, a superficial flashiness that masks the absence of true value. Beneath the glitter, obstreperousness erupts — the boisterous, noisy clamor of those seeking attention without substance.

Worse still, prevaricatory tendencies — deception, misleading half-truths — can erode trust, especially in leadership and relationships. Yet, amidst such façades, there remains the rhapsodical soul, ecstatic and exalted, who sees beauty and grandeur where others see only the mundane.

The Discipline of Mastery

To create something of enduring worth requires sedulousness — the diligent perseverance that fuels innovation, art, and wisdom. In contrast, tenebrism captures the darkness and gloom we sometimes traverse, both literally and metaphorically, in pursuit of clarity.

Even institutions face reckoning. When values are betrayed, there comes a time to unfrockto oust or dismiss those unworthy of their roles, be it in religion, politics, or business.

Gazing Beyond

Finally, as we look upward, we are reminded of the welkin — the vast sky and firmament that frame our existence. It humbles us, beckoning us to dream beyond, to seek enlightenment, and to continually evolve.

Mastering these rare yet potent words is more than an exercise in vocabulary. It is an invitation to explore the nuances of human experience, each term offering a lens through which we can better understand ourselves and the world around us.

From the FaceBook of My Youngest Daughter-Ditas

My youngest daughter, Ditas transition from a Presidential Appointee to a Yoga Practitioner and Art Teacher is an example of unexpected ups and downs in our daily lives. From The Washington DC area( Alexandria. VA) to Sacramento will be her next move this October.

The following posting reminded me of the week, when my partner and confidant for 63 years ( Ditas Mom) passed. Spending a weekend at the Beach( to breath and grieve) was indeed healing and I fully remember this occasion. Here's Ditas posting from her FB page dated August 20, 2020! ( Carenna leaving for College that week).
"The LESSON OF BLOKUS💖 - as we prepared for Carenna KT to leave the nest, I struggled to make sure I had imparted as much wisdom, and practical information (washing dishes, clothes, cooking pasta etc) but most of all on my mind was how do I get her to grow that self-esteem and confidence.
Over the weekend, we took my💚 Dad/Lolo to Stinson Beach (compliments of Tita Charo, Michael and Lisa) to get away from the smoke and to allow for a change of venue. Noting that after Nick's funeral 8 years ago, Carenna and I went to Stinson to breath and grieve

Dodie Katague came up to stay the 2nd night with David B Katague and drive him back home. It was definitely the healing time that we all needed. We found our favorite game of "BLOKUS" there and decided to teach Lolo how to play. Now Dodie and Carenna are quite competitive when it comes to Blokus.

I tend to be quiet and enjoy the beautiful visual nature of the game (and frankly I win a lot). In the past, Carenna has "come after me" or targeted other folks in the attempt to win - and found that she lost more than she won. This time - she focused on her own game, on her own pieces - lo and behold, she won a few, tied with me, and was one piece behind me on winning as well.

The lesson - "play your own game, don't compare yourself to others, stop trying to play someone elses game. " And right before we left for the beach, Carenna's long time voice/music/vocal coach and mentor Larisa Bryski told her that Taylor Swift is such a talented star because she "sings her own songs, and sings them well". And Carenna realized - that she just needs to sing her own songs that she writes, because it's her words, her writing and her melody.

Again - a great learning - be your own person. And finally, I told her to remember the Four Agreements: *Be impeccable with your word; *Don't take anything personally; *Don't make assumptions; *Always do your best (and my personal commentary - "and let your best be good enough".

💖Blokus (/ˈblɒkəs/ BLOK-əs) is an abstract strategy board game for two to four players, where players try to score points by occupying most of the board with pieces of their colour. The board is a square regular grid and the pieces are polyominoes. It was designed by French mathematician Bernard Tavitian and first released in 2000 by Sekkoïa, a French company. It has won several awards, including the Mensa Select award and the 2004 Teacher's Choice Award. In 2009, the game was sold to Mattel.

Comments from Sister-in-Law from Sydney, AU  Lourdes Katague
How beautiful lessons from your words of wisdom. Now I ride in the ferry around Sydney Harbour and my heart ♥️ is full. Ditas the Opal card brings me around such a wonderful gift 💝 playing my own music learning the events in my surroundings without leaving the country. What a great feeling.

Meanwhile here's what I’ve Learned from the book-The Four Agreements

In his timeless book The Four AgreementsDon Miguel Ruiz offers a set of principles that, when practiced daily, can bring peace, clarity, and balance to our lives. These agreements may seem simple at first glance, but their power lies in consistent practice. Here’s a reflection on each:

1. Be impeccable with your word.
Words carry energy. They can inspire or wound, uplift or destroy. Being impeccable with your word means speaking truthfully, avoiding gossip, and using language that nurtures rather than harms. It’s not just about what you say to others—it’s also about the words you use with yourself.

2. Don’t take anything personally.
So often, we suffer needlessly because we assume that the opinions and actions of others are directed at us. In reality, people’s behavior is more about their own experiences, struggles, and perspectives. Letting go of personal offense frees us from unnecessary hurt and helps us live with greater emotional resilience.

3. Don’t make assumptions.
Assumptions are shortcuts the mind takes, but they often lead to misunderstandings. How much conflict could be avoided if we simply asked questions, clarified intentions, or sought understanding instead of jumping to conclusions? Choosing curiosity over assumption opens the door to healthier communication.

4. Always do your best.
Your best will change from moment to moment—sometimes strong and full of energy, other times quiet and limited. What matters is giving what you can in the present. And here’s an important reminder: let your best be good enough.Too often, we hold ourselves to impossible standards. But when we honor the effort, not just the outcome, we can find peace in knowing we’ve done what we can.

Finally, my Personal Reflection on the FOUR Agreements

As I look back on my own journey, especially through the years I’ve been writing and sharing on this blog, I see how much these agreements have shaped the way I express myself. Writing has been my way of practicing the first agreement—being impeccable with my word. Each post has been a chance to share honestly, to use words that reflect truth and kindness, and to leave behind something of value.

The second and third agreements—not taking things personally and not making assumptionshave helped me handle both the praise and the criticism that come with putting my voice out into the world. I’ve learned that once my words are shared, they take on their own life, and people will receive them through the lens of their own experiences.

And of course, the fourth agreement—always do your best, and let your best be good enoughis perhaps the one I’ve lived most closely through my blogging. Not every post is perfect, not every idea fully polished, but I’ve written with sincerity. Over time, I’ve come to see that doing my best in the moment, and accepting that as enough, has brought me peace and joy in the process itself.

These agreements are not just wisdom from a book—they’ve been companions on my own path, guiding how I live, how I write, and how I share with all of you. Your comments on this posting will be highly appreciated,

Now my Fifth Agreement and  Personal Note to Parents with more than One Child: Never compare your children to one another.
